The Athletics Union was established on November 1, 1995 to further the development of sports and sporting facilities in each of University of Dohuks' eleven colleges. The Athletics Union contains 12 sports trainers associated with a specific college who are responsible for all activities associated with their respective college. Intercollegiate championships are arranged annually for football, basketball, handball, volleyball, table tennis, chess, and short field football. They also arrange university teams to compete in championships nationally and internationally.
The union also acquaints students with the social and health benefits of sports, including strengthened teamwork and interpersonal relationships. The Union is also responsible for supplying the college teams with equipment and training to attain a future filled with success and confidence in the world of competitive sports.

University teams have been ranked regionally and nationally.
