The College of Basic Education was established in 2003. It began as the Department of Teachers in the College of Arts in 2002. The college is developing the concept of education by introducing advanced teaching methods and publishing modern educational approaches. Using information and experience gathered through cooperation with educational and cultural establishments in Iraqi Kurdistan, solutions to local educational problems are being realized and a new generation of educators is being produced. The college also provides technical consultation for their individual specializations.
The purpose of each department is to prepare students to be qualified teachers for Primary and Intermediate Schools. The college provides students with teaching fundamentals in addition to psychological and educational subjects that deal with each department.
The college offers a B.Ed. according to specialization for undergraduate study. The college does not yet offer graduate certification but steps have been taken towards initiating a graduate program for a M.Ed. in some specializations.
