The College of Law and Politics was established on May 22, 1999. It began as a department in the College of Administration and Economics in 1997. The college has developed several programs to help mold students. Law students host judges at the governorate courts to preside over seminars and student summer programs in order to gain applied experience at the court houses available in the governorate. The college also introduces its students to tour the regional prison system to promote relations between the university and its respective society in order to put in motion an active college role in assessing and resolving legal dilemmas from outside of the system. Completing the four year study increases the graduates’ ability to work as a lawyer or gain career opportunities of one of the Governorate offices as per ministry requisite. The legal practice course is also available to those who wish to become solicitors.
The college of Law and Politics demands a high academic standard since it equips students with the analytical skills necessary to enable them to comprehensively recognize the principles of law, human rights, and democracy. The objective is to give students the legal expertise that enables them to work in law courts, legal advisory offices, or as legal consultants to companies or organizations. In addition, the college has developed a number of services to help its students complete their studies successfully.
The college offers a four-year course of study (two semesters a year) leading to the B.L. Degree.
The Graduate Program in the College of Law and Politics commenced in 2003-2004. Currently, we only offer a Diploma of Law, Ba of Law, and an MA of Law, specialization in Public Law and in Private Law.
