The eleven-item agreement included strategies aimed at facilitating the exchange of teaching staff, the encouragement of contributions to conferences to be held jointly by the two universities, cooperation on aspects of writing and the press, on permitting postgraduate students to carry out research at laboratories in both universities, and the allocation of university places to enable students to obtain their master and doctorate degrees within the available specializations at both universities.
The agreement was signed on July 7, 2006 by Dr. Asmat on behalf of the University of Dohuk and by Dr. Maher Salih Al-Jiboori for the University of Tikrit, following a visit to Dohuk by Dr Al Jiboori and members of his delegation.
Dr. Asmat stated that the aim of the agreement is to establish joint relationships between the two universities that will serve scientific development. It will also include support for sporting activities, writing, press publications and translation work.
Dr. Asmat stated that the agreement will be applied within executive measures approved by the boards of both universities and will take effect immediately following approval by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Dr. Maher stated, “We hope that this agreement will be the gateway to a closer relationship between our two universities.” |
