British Council in Iraq – Country Director, Mr. David Alderdice, visited the University of Dohuk (UoD) on Sunday, December 3, 2006. His visit confirmed their commitment to strengthen relations as well as encouraging the process of teaching English language in the Region in general and in UoD in particular. The purpose of his visit is to look for suitable ways to develop relations with Dr. Idrees Hadi, Minister of Higher Education in the Region, who will visit Britain in the beginning of the coming year.
In the meeting with president Asmat, possible areas of cooperation and support that the British Council in Iraq could provide to help the development of Higher Education in Dohuk were discussed, such as Higher Educational Links, Curriculum Development, and Scholarships. The focus will be on the process of activating relations first then the process of teaching English Language. They will also support an English Teaching Center to be opened in UoD. The British council is developing relations with the five universities in the Kurdistan Region to help provide for the needs of all. The meeting concluded with a tour of the University's facilities on the new campus by Dr. Dawood Atrushi, Vice President for International Relations.
