Governor of Dohuk, Tamar Ramadan seeks to utilize the scientific knowledge and experience of the University of Dohuk together with its international relations with other academic centers to study the economic situation and develop a plan for the future. In an attempt to enhance coordination and build cooperation between the government and the university, members from the Iraqi Deputy Council and the Kurdistan Parliament held a meeting with the University of Dohuk (UoD).
The governor referred to the importance of utilizing the university experiences in engineering projects and social studies to improve the quality of life for the citizens. The upgrading of the educational standards would eventually improve the quality of graduates who can then enhance the function of the general directorates and provide the governorate with a well trained and efficient administrative staff in the different sectors of government.
Dr. Asmat M. Khalid, UoD President, reemphasized the need to execute the official directorates' needs and find solutions for society problems that can only be realized by planning and cooperation between the government and the university. He added that in spite of all the obstacles the university has faced since its inception, such as the lack of support, definitive budget, and inadequate academic staff housing, the university has achieved a lot in fulfilling these needs.
Mr. Jamal Yousif, Kurdistan Parliament member, urged the activation of this cooperation between the UoD and the governmental institutions by encouraging specialized committees to be formed and special study centers for economic development and antiquities to be opened for research about the negative trends in society and how to reach solutions that will benefit all sectors.
Mr. Ezddin Baqisry, Kurdistan Parliament member, emphasized the importance of the role of the university in dealing with a myriad of issues such as finding a solution for the problems of the language of instruction within departments, also raising awareness and the educational standard regarding contemporary issues such as article 140 of the Iraqi constitution.
Mr. Ali Balue, Iraqi Deputy Council member, stressed the role of graduate students to change the society and conduct research that deals with economical and environmental problems.
