| Vice President Attends an International Conference on Iraqi Rebuilding Conference in America |

After two years of planning, an International conference on Rebuilding Sustainable Communities in Iraq was held at U-Mass in Boston, MA on July 23-26. The international intervention to rebuild Iraq brought together scholars and officials including Dr. Dawood Atrushi, Vice President of International Relations at University of Dohuk.
The central objective of this conference was to provide an intellectual forum for scholars and practitioners to explore how these tasks could be carried out in a manner that promotes social justice, economic and political sustainability, and full participation of all stakeholders. The outcomes of the conference deliberations is meant to help policy makers to formulate and implement the most appropriate policies as well as embark upon innovative sustainable projects.
The delegation was to consist of 52 Iraqi representatives while only 6 were able to attend due to difficulties faced in attaining US visas and the current political unrest in Iraq. The Kurdish Region was also represented by the president of Salahaddin University, a Prime Minister advisor, Ministry of Higher Education representative, and a businessman.
The Kurdish delegation played a visible role at the conference by ensuring the Kurdish Region is stable with a safe environment. They discussed relations and the set up of training courses in Kurdistan. The next conference was declared to be held in Erbil.
During the Visit Dr. Atrushi had several meetings with representatives of different universities, including Chancellor of U-Mass in Boston, Mr. J. Keith Motley. He also established good relations with several organizations working to support Iraqi universities, such as Kurdistan University Research Development (K.U.R.D), represented by Helene Sairany. During the conference the University of Dohuk participated in a couple of PSCG meetings and became a research partner in the project.
The conference was organized by the College of Public and Community Services at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
