The first historical meeting about Amedia (60 km north of Dohuk) was held at the Cultural Center Hall in Amedia. The meeting titled "Amedia is the Center for Human Cultural Development" focused on the importance of repairing and maintaining the ruins of this area in addition to urging Kurdish writing of its history. Dr. Salah Herori, director of the media at the University of Dohuk, acknowledged that the main purpose of the meeting was to concentrate on local history and its role as an emirate for a long time in Kurdish history.
Sixteen exhibits about Amedia history and geography were presented in coordination with Kurdistan Democratic Party (Branch 18) and University of Dohuk (UoD). The displays represented the periods of middle and modern history. One display presented the original study conducted on the Jews and Christians of Amedia. Another explained the importance of Amedia's geography and its role in the Kurdish freedom movement. The meeting also showed analysis for some relevant subjects such as: Islamic history and the most famous people who wrote about the region in general and Amedia in particular.
Dr. Asmat, the president of UoD, in his speech stated that it is the time for the professors to write about the history of the area in general because what is currently written is not adequate. He also assured the importance of renewing alliances in coordination with area activities.
