A delegation from the Polish Jagellonian University in Cracow accompanied by Mr. Ziad Ra'uf the representative of the Kurdistan Region in Poland visited the University of Dohuk on Thursday March 30, 2006.
During the visit, the two sides discussed the matter of extending the joint cooperation agreement between the two universities to include further educational fields.
Dr. Asmat, president of the University of Dohuk received the delegation warmly and both parties discussed the expansion of the Department of Kurdish Studies in the Jagellonian University. Dr Asmat confirmed Dohuk University's willingness to support the Jagellonian in this regard and to increase the number of Kurdish students wishing to study in Cracow as well as the exchange of teaching staff between the two universities.
The delegation included Professor Eva Siemieniec head of the Department of Oriental Studies, Professor Andrie Ploswicz and Prof. Anna Krasnowolska. Prof. Siemieniec expressed the willingness of the Polish side to expand the relationship following their visit to the Universities of Dohuk and Saladdin in Erbil, she stated, 'in view of what we have seen and felt here there is no doubt of the readiness in Dohuk to extend the relationship. The subject will be studied and put before specialists in Poland.
Mr. Ziad Ra'uf the representative of the Kurdistan Region confirmed that cooperation between the Jagellonian University and the Universities in the Kurdistan Region will be extended and there will be a further visit to Suleimanyia University to discuss this matter. He stated that the Jagellonian University is ready to do everything necessary to further this end. Mr. Ziad Ra'uf added that a future study will be made into the setting-up of a cooperation agreement with Koya University since the current agreement only includes the three already-existing universities in the Kurdistan Region and this was signed prior to the declaration of establishment of Koya University.
The delegation visited several colleges on the new campus of the university and showed interest in the stages of the construction of the integrated project in Dohuk. |
