| 163 Seats for Graduate Studies in UoD and 31 Scholarships in Europe |

University of Dohuk (UoD) announced its plan for graduate studies for the academic year 2007-2008. It has allocated 163 seats for students studying for Masters Degrees and Higher Diploma. It also has provided 31 scholarships to students nominated to study in European universities.
Dr. Hassan Amin, VP for Scientific Affairs, said that the 163 seats will be granted to seven colleges at UoD to cover the lack of specialized professionals, particularly in the new departments of the College of Engineering and the College of Education. Last year, the number of seats for graduate students was 93, and the year before was 61. UoD will not offer PhD study this year due to limited financial funding by the university and the resulting expenses for the increasing number of higher diploma studies.Higher diploma studies will increase their seats to 35 in the College of Medicine and the College of Administration and Economics, an increase from the 18 seats of last year.
The Master program for this year contains:
26 seats for the College of Education,
29 seats for the College of Arts,
5 seats for the College of Veterinary Medicine,
10 seats for the College of Agriculture,
17 seats for the College of Engineering,
33 seats for the College of Administration and Economics, 10 of which will be allocated to higher diploma studies,
43 seats for the College of Medicine, 25 of which will allocate to higher diploma studies.
Furthermore, UoD recently announced the availability of 31 scholarships from the Erasmus Mundus program for studying M.Sc., PhD and Post Doctoral in 10 leading European universities. In addition to UoD, which is the only main partner from Iraqi universities to be elected for this program, the University of Mosul and Sallahaddin University are associated partners in the program. Professor Nazar Numan, consultant at the International Relation Office, said that the university has nominated 62 candidates from different specializations but only 31 of them will be accepted to continue their graduate studies abroad. The universities under this agreement will provide full tuition to attend one of the designated universities. Placement assistance, housing, traveling and living expenses are also provided for the selected applicants while attending a university in one of the following countries: Holland, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Portugal, UK, and Spain.
