The Manager of the Registration Office at the University of Dohuk (UoD), Dr. Nori Abdulrahman, confirmed that more than 1660 Iraqi students from outside Kurdistan Region were accepted in the UoD in the academic year 2007-2008. Most of the accepted students came from unsecured areas such as: Baghdad, Mosul and other Iraqi cities.
The students that joined UoD recently could be summarized in: 740 students transferred from other Iraqi universities in the Middle and Southern parts of Iraq to the UoD. Another 400 students from different parts of Iraq that suffer from bad conditions were hosted temporally in the UoD. Furthermore, 520 students had to postpone their studying year to the next year 2008-2009 because they did not start in the determined date for the first course. In addition to acceptance of 41 Iraqi students returned from Iran and 16 Iraqi students backed from Europe.
Waleed Michael from the Registration Office stated that there were some differences between UoD and the other universities that students came from with respect to textbooks contents, these differences made a number of students change their minds and return to the same universities they came from. "The differences in the textbooks are considered something normal among different universities," he said. The large number of students who were accepted in the UoD this academic year added a kind of stress to the colleges needs.
