The Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research in the Kurdistan region, Dr. Idrees Hadi, visited the University of Dohuk (UoD). The purpose of his visit was to open a branch of the Dell Company for computers to provide the university academics and administrative staff as well as students with laptops in installments.
One of the ministry plans is to implement the modern teaching methods in the Kurdistan region universities such as using computers and other technologies instead of the traditional ways of teaching. The ministry has thus nominated a special committee to work on the evaluation and application of the plan. In this regard, the universities in the Kurdistan region will be connected with many of the international universities by the internet.
Through the ministry relations and programs, up to 70 memorandums of understanding were signed with different universities and scientific institutes over the world. This will be widely beneficial to all of the universities in the region. Accordingly a new center is created for qualifying the universities teaching staffs and providing scientific exchange programs for them. Dr. Idrees stated that the ministry is going to set up another committee for strategic studies in the region. The committee will be specialized in social, economical and agricultural studies in addition to scientific research in the fields of water, oil, and energy resources.
On the other hand, the manager of Dell Company, Mohammed Abduljabbar, said that there will be three categories for providing laptops for the UoD staff: installment in long-term, short-term and other intermediate. This project was initiated by cooperation with the students' organization in the Kurdistan region. He also stated that the Dell Computers Company has opened other branches in the Sallahaddin University, Hawler Medical University and Sulaimani University and probably they will start another branch in Koya University. The project includes maintenance for the sold computers for three years. The company has so far supplied 1300 computer devices since a year of its opening in the other parts of Kurdistan region.
